Abstract

This article presents the case of a company in the State of Rio de Janeiro that produces plastic lumber from waste generated in other businesses. Aims to present the form of insertion of this company in the production chains of the others, now provide ingredients for plastic lumber. The extension of the life cycle of plastics and natural fibers, which would otherwise constitute waste, reducing the need for extraction and consumption of natural wood, as well as consequences of the use of, for example, deforestation and possible improper combustion , avoided by the use of plastic lumber, suggest that, based on the logic of closed-loop material on the concept of industrial Ecology, can develop sustainable production processes in industrial ecosystem investigated.
