Abstract

After the approval of the National Solid Waste (PNRs) in 2010, the solid waste management has been widely discussed. Institutions associated with education, research and service are also generating waste and must meet the legal and technical requirements. According to the type of institutions and their laboratory management many type of residues are generated and some of them can be danger. Thus, as the processing industries, these institutions need to prepare their management plans and develop actions for the implementation of a waste management plan. This paper aims to present a waste management system proposed for a research institution. As part of the management system it was made a diagnosis that indicated the need for priority measures in certain laboratories and a waste management system of laboratories (WMSL), whose implementation and operation should involve various sectors of the institution. The proposed system aims to meet the requirements of legislation and the market on environmental issues, reducing waste and improving the image of the institution as a consequence.
