The streamlining of procedures for the integration of environmental issues in construction implies a greater control of all steps in the process of construction, maintenance and changes in post-occupation. The rehabilitation of buildings in Brazil has been a recurring theme among the concerned sectors, particularly in the construction industry. This is presented as a favorable field for technical investment, scientific and financial. As a reference in national and international interventions, the term architectural retrofit, is a business opportunity, a solution to revitalizing urban areas and upgrading of buildings, with its obsolete infrastructure and outdated equipment. This article aims to contribute to advancing knowledge in the field of rehabilitation, identifying the main criteria and the best practices of architectural solutions for a retrofit. As for the means of bibliographic research, the methodology of work involved research on the available literature, a survey being done so in search of concepts on structuring retrofit in books and articles in journals and conference proceedings in the national databases Scopus and Google Scholar InfoHab . At the end of the work presented is the result of a case study in a building for teaching. After defining the guidelines of the proposed methodology of a retrofit, a statistical study concludes the offer is accepted by professionals in proving the feasibility study.
