Maintenance management is strategic for organizations and basic on ports operational processes, supporting to face the competitiveness challenge in the globalized environment. This paper analyses productivity management applied to maintenance teams at Port Complex of Tubarão, located in Vitória (ES) and it identifies and propose a measurement technique for evaluation. The exploratory research was developed by a case study comprised by a bibliography review, managerial reports analysis, port site technical visit and semi structured interviews with responsible technical people. The technique proposed was time study for each task, comprising stratifying productive and non-productive time by applying work sampling and random choice of activities, in a very simple and able way to accomplish the requirement. The analysis done and discussions with technical people concluded that work sampling technique is adequate and feasible to study maintenance team productivity in the iron ore terminal of Tubarão. It was also concluded, by interaction with the responsible people, that the technique use supporting the maintenance productivity evaluation can be considered well succeeded.
